We Invite You to Join us in Affirming Your Concerns about HSPD-12
Are you a JPLer concerned about HSPD-12, how it has been implemented,
or having your livelihood put under duress? We invite you to publicly
affirm your concerns by signing the statement below. We invite you to do
so whether or not you have already signed SF85. Doing this does not
associate you with the legal case now pending and it offers a means for
your concerns to be counted.
By submitting your entering your name and email below, you are
acknowledging that:
You agree with the statement below
You are a JPL employee or JPL contract employee
You consent to your name (along with all the other signers) being
included in public announcements of this declaration.
The statement:
As employees and contractors of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), we
have been directed by NASA to sign a waiver authorizing investigators to
obtain information about our personal affairs from anyone, on any
matter, regardless of any previous agreements to the contrary. We see
this as a violation of our rights to privacy under the U.S. Constitution
and the California State Constitution.
Delays or refusals to sign the waiver have resulted in economic
duress in the form of threats of forced leave without pay and
termination of employment. In order to protect our livelihoods and to
continue our nation's exploration of the Earth and outer space, each of
us was compelled to sign the waiver or is contemplating signing it.
However, none of us, the undersigned, are engaged in work that
requires a security clearance, and we have never before been subjected
to this requirement as a condition of employment. We are concerned about
its stifling effect on attracting the best talent to JPL. We see no
reasonable grounds for the government's unprecedented and unfettered
intrusion into the private affairs of JPL employees and contractors.
